The Unicorn is Found, the fourth Hunt of the Unicorn tapestry goes on display at Stirling Castle Scotland this year with a free viewing on December 4, 2008.
At the end of November, The Unicorn is Found tapestry will be arriving at Stirling Castle in Scotland from West Dean Tapestry Studio in West Sussex England. The Unicorn is Found will be put on display to the public visiting Stirling Castle in the Chapel Royal where Mary Queen of Scots was crowned and where Prince Henry, first son of James VI was baptised. Each of the first three completed tapestries measure 3.3 metres by up to 3.8 metres and the public can photograph these tapestries in the Chapel Royal. Highlights of the detail and quality weaving by the West Dean Tapestry Studio and the Stirling Castle Tapestry Studio on these three Hunt of the Unicorn Tapestries are illustrated below. Speaking about The Unicorn is Found tapestry arriving at Stirling Castle, Stirling Castle manager, Gillian MacDonald, said “It is truly magnificent, measuring 11 feet high, and is part of a £2 million project to recreate a series of tapestries like those which hung at the castle when it was a favourite residence of Scotland’s Renaissance kings and queens”. Free Viewing Of The Unicorn Is Found Tapestry at Stirling CastleCelebrating the arrival at Stirling Castle of the hand-woven fourth tapestry in The Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries, The Unicorn is Found, there will be a free public viewing on Thursday December 4, 2008 from 5.30pm to 8.00pm with free refreshments and Christmas shopping with fresh gift wrapping service at the Stirling Castle shops. The free viewing of The Unicorn Is Found Tapestry at Stirling Castle and evening Christmas shopping will be for the Clan Shop on the Stirling Castle esplanade and the main Stirling Castle gift shop inside the castle walls. Christmas Shopping at Stirling Castle ScotlandThe shops at Stirling Castle stock contemporary Scottish designer silverware, ceramics, toys and Hunt of the Unicorn tapestry gifts and cookware with many items unique to Historic Scotland.
